Reflection on Google Search and Internet Forums

Today's lecture was about the feature of Google search engine. Actually, this was nothing new to me except the use of Boolean operations as I have been using it for quite some time now. Using the Advanced Search and Boolean Operators can yield more refined results and cut short on the numbers of results located, where majority are irrelevant website inadvertently picked by Google. For example is using the phrase "usage* AND "computer technology" AND "film industry"", where is lessen the number of results and increase the relevancy. Thus, it is very effective and enhance my research experience. Thus, I am impressed of this feature of Google.

Participating in online forum isn't a new experience to me too. I have been actively in technology forums and my favourite online forum is hardwarezone.com. Through this forum, I can gain much information from other users as we discuss and share knowledge and perspective on various topics under the forum. Sometimes, I may have mistakenly posted wrong information regarding a certain topic, and there are different responses to it. Some would kindly point out my mistake and correctly it, while others may have a more aggressive stance. However, I feel that forums are a excellent platform to learn more about a given topic as it is driven by a community spirit of sharing.

Citation and referencing is very important to me as it recognizes the credit of others when we utilize the materials products by others for our research work. This ensures that the original author is given due credit for his effort in producing the material, and to prevent plagiarism, which is a major offence both in education and the workplace. It is morally wrong to use the work of others and post it as your own, and thus we will need to cite or reference our source materials to recognise their work.
